My assignment 5 is entitled
“An American Journey”. For assignment 5 we were required to develop a sequence of related writing assignments.
We were to set a context and explain our theoretical rationale for the sequence we developed. I feel that I met all of these
requirements. I began my paper by setting the context that this lesson would be taught in. I gave the demographics of the
classroom as well as a brief history of the type of work we have done this year. In this section I also discussed what I hoped
to accomplish by giving them this assignment sequence. I addressed several English-Language-Arts standards with this sequence,
which I provided in both a list form and in paragraphs. I created a section on the scaffolding that is used in this assignment
sequence, I was having a hard time figuring out where to add this in, so I just gave it its own section. The next requirement
was to explain my theoretical rationale. I feel that I did this adequately and I used resources that were presented throughout
our class which represented current best practices in the field of writing. My assignment sequence does reflect many best
practices including being both active and meaningful. The assignment sequence that I created includes all of the requirements
for a good assignment description and was done in the correct format.
I believe that this assignment
sequence does demonstrate my improvement because it is the culmination of all of my work this semester. I was introduced to
the idea of hypertext in the classroom while researching articles for Assignment two, I then posed a question about hypertext
in Assignment three and was exposed to yet more research in the field. My theory of teaching was also used to develop this
assignment sequence because I wanted to show how my theory could be put into practice. I feel that my sequence does reflect
my theories and would work out wonderfully in a classroom. I would never have been able to create this sequence without the
knowledge I have gained over the course of this semester.
Finally, this assignment
sequence does reflect my success as a college level writer because it shows not only my abilities to proofread and correctly
use grammar and citation, but also my abilities with the computer. I feel that being able to use a word processor to its fullest
capacity is also a sign of a college level writer in this day and age. In a technologically advanced world we need technologically
advanced teacher. I feel that I will be one of those teachers. I used many advanced process available in Microsoft Word including
created a table of contents that is hyperlinked within the document and creating diagrams. I even created a web site that
goes along with the assignment sequence for my WebQuest. These abilities will serve me well as a teacher of reading and writing
and I believe that everyone should have this experience.
